Meghan VanDeuson

The VanDeuson Collection

My name is Meghan.  In 2019, I brought art back into my life.   Art makes me happy, it’s relaxing, it’s therapeutic for my soul.  I am inspired by yoga, Tai Chi, acupuncture, and deep studying of manifesting all good things to come to fruition. Through God, I improve my self-concept, I strive to be the best person, mother, companion, and friend that I can be. I learn something new daily, I gain insight that helps me grow to appreciate everything life sends my way.

I started my art journey when I was 12 years old (probably even earlier). I drew in pencil a home on the corner of Main Street and Clinton Avenue in Homer, NY.  I did this for an art class in school.  My momma framed it for me, from that point on, I loved to draw… I even thought I might be an architect and design homes.  I didn’t, I became an Administrative Assistant 2 at SUNY Cortland and stayed local.  About these older pieces, my friend has coined the phrase: “Early VanDeuson work” (Said in an English accent--that always gives us a good laugh!)

The pieces you will see displayed in the gallery are a mixture of my newer pieces, along with a few older ones.  I was motivated to keep my hands busy from not eating!  In 2017, I had weight loss surgery and have experienced A LOT of bumps along the way…  So much of my framed or canvas pieces I have given away to friends and family, so my physical collection is small, but I have archived everything in my website.  Every day is a new adventure, having three children, a full-time job at SUNY Cortland for the past 23 years, and a part-time job at a local restaurant.  I am blessed to be surrounded by my supportive family and friends.  Through my art, I have learned to express myself, creatively and spiritually.  I am thankful for my life!  Thank you for viewing my gallery today.

Sincerely,

Meghan E. VanDeuson

Crafter. Scrapbooker. Cardmaker. Certified Zentangle Teacher. Tangler. Mixed Media Artist. Upcycler. Organic Farmer. Graphic Designer. Gardener. Amateur Photographer. Interior Decorator. Educator. Wife. Mom. Mima. My name is Mary Elliott. I am all of the above. Just not necessarily in that order. Eltimar Design Thank you for visiting! I know that we are all busy people, and I so appreciate that you took the time to come to look at my pieces. As you can see, my designs are best described as eclectic. I have a lot of interests, and that translates to a lot of different techniques, looks, and finished product types. I found Zentangle a few years ago when I was very ill, and looking for a viable way to meditate. My mind and pain levels wouldn't really allow me to settle into regular meditation. I could never find the quiet. But then one late night, while googling meditation, I found this funny word, "Zentangle". I have never been able to draw. Doodle, yes. Been doing that my whole life. But the Zentangle method allowed me to calm my mind, forget some of the pain, and create some cool designs. I fell in love with the whole concept. After a couple of years on my own, I found a class at our local library taught by Doris Wilbur. When she decided to retire, she encouraged me to get certified. I did, and now lead my own little merry band of Tanglers. The Mixed Media piece came a little later. The idea of combining layers of paints and inks with stencils and found objects, and then adding my drawings just seemed like a natural fit. And then you combine that with Upcycling? Trifecta! My craft room is a very cool place to be when I have a newly found treasure, my art supplies and pens, a new tangle to draw, and a design swimming through my brain. I digitize all of my work, so that I can repurpose it to be used on other projects. (Yes, I even upcycle my own stuff.) All of these techniques can be combined to create wall hangings, cards, and scrapbook layouts. I also create custom scrapbooks and journals, and will incorporate copies of my work into those. I teach all of the above. Anywhere and everywhere I can. On my business card it reads "I just love to create. Let me create something for you." On a very cool side note, I am extremely proud to say that in May 2024, my entire Tangle group and I had artwork published in a book called Tangle All Around: Our Art, Our Journey. (Available on Amazon). I was also honored to be the solo artist in an exhibit in the McNeil Building Mid May to the end of June last Spring, and Greenstar Ithaca in February and March 2024. Again, thank you for coming. Your support is so very welcomed and valued. Mary D. Elliott Graphic Designer, CZT#36 EltimarDesign@gmail.com
